Design

Each model has a interchangeable technology module, which is connected to the speaker via a multi-pin power connector. It is therefore easy to upgrade the passive loudspeaker with ITRON technology or with the wireless module.

Angular cantilevered tweeter unit

The frame construction of the tweeter unit is based on an aluminum flat profile with internal concealed cable routing. The 35 degree cantilever breaks the vertical lines and achieves a progressive silhouette.

The smallest of the three spherical wave horns is thus emphasized in the visual perception.

Light, elegant and always functional

Due to the design-typical 35 degree angle of the cantilevers, the speaker seems to float above the floor.

The actual adjustable feet or optional spikes are concealed under the foot frame. The special spike mount made of solid aluminum forms an extremely stable composite structure with the speaker stand assembly, which prevents vibrations and oscillations.

 
 

Coplanar alignment of the drivers

All drivers are on one vertical axis. This means that the acoustic centers are all on the same plane. The distance of the acoustic centers of the drivers to the listener are therefore always identical.

The tweeter is mounted on a precision slide rail. The coplanar alignment can thus be precisely fine-tuned.
 

Technology

XT3 - the tweeter unit

The new XT3 tweeter unit is a completely new development.

An extremely extended LongThrow tweeter horn combined with the low mass of the new XT3 tweeter driver results in impressive readings and a delicate, detailed sound.

The lighter Annular diaphragm can move much faster than any of Avantgarde's previous drivers. The extended frequency range up to 28,000 Hz thus provides an even more dynamic and crisp reproduction.

XM3 - the midrange unit

Avantgarde developed the unusual design principles of this reference driver over 30 years ago and have perfected this concept over the years.

A compression ratio tending towards zero, 27 Ohm impedance, 109 dB efficiency, 570 mm omnidirectional horn and the Airgate air filter technology.

For us, the XM3 is the best midrange unit available.

XL3 - the upper bass unit

The spherical wave horn of the XL3 fundamental unit has a diameter of 950mm, a length of 650mm and a horn throat opening of 100mm. That’s not only pretty big, but also pretty unique.

The XL3 horn driver is equipped with everything that is good and dear to us. TripleLayerCompount diaphragm, AirGate filter, SphericDome architecture, etc. etc. Superior technologies based on over 30 years of experience, combined with manufacturing precision that is second to none.

The perfect crossover

With Avantgarde's SphericLowCut filter, the Airgate technology and the PolarizationPlus circuit, Avantgarde realized the most innovative technological concepts in Avantgarde's passive crossover.

These are completed, with the highest quality components available. Avantgarde's new NatureCap is an extremely intricately designed capacitor, handmade in Germany. Instead of using ultra-thin plastic foils vaporized with aluminum, the electrodes are made of precisely rolled aluminum foil. As dielectric Avantgarde uses a cellulose fiber compound impregnated by biological oils. The NatureCap is approx. 25 x larger than the capacitors from the XA series and is stably attached to the circuit board via specially manufactured brackets.

The ZERO iTRON is a fully active 3-way loudspeaker with 2 x 10 watt iTron current amplifiers and 1 x 400 watt Class D subwoofer amplifier. Digital Crossover

The bass power amplifier is equipped with an advanced digital sound processor. With a precision and bit accuracy that cannot be achieved with analogue technology, the digital crossover eliminates all passive filter elements in the signal path. The subwoofer volume is set using two buttons on the DSP display.

Extensive additional settings (e.g. high and low pass filters, equalizers, etc.) can be programmed. The user interface has been completely redesigned and is now very easy and intuitive for the customer to use. All parameters can be easily adapted to the room acoustics or listening habits.

ZERO iTRON

MEZZO G3

The MEZZO G3 is a semi-active 2-way horn system designed for customers who cannot place the TRIO with SpaceHorns due to space limitations, but who still demand the non-plus-ultra in terms of bass performance. Excellence Reinvented, in the G3 Series, Avantgarde has taken the bionic horn principle to the extreme. Highly bred horn performance through unrestrained efficiency with a huge transmission range.

PASSIVE AND ITRON VERSIONS

SEMI-ACTIVE

The semi-active version is designed to be used with external hi-fi amplifiers. With an efficiency of 107dB/W/m and an impedance of 18 ohms, the speaker is extremely easy to operate and ideal for low-power amplifiers. The ideal speaker for the world’s finest high-end amplifiers.

iTRON VERSION
Amplifiers are built into the speaker, eliminating the need for external power amplifiers. To achieve this, Avantgarde has developed an electronic system that is based on a fundamentally different operating principle to any of the conventional amplifiers on the market. Avantgarde Acoustic claims to be the first manufacturer in the world to achieve what was previously thought to be an impossible technological feat. For a sound that is simply heavenly.

Modular Technology
Each model has a replaceable technology module that connects to the loudspeaker via a multi-pin power connector. This makes it easy to upgrade the semi-active speaker with iTRON technology at a later date. It can be upgraded to the most advanced digital technology available at the time, even after many years. Coplanar Alignment
In the G3 Series, all drivers are on one axis. This means that the acoustic centers are all on the same plane. The distance of the acoustic centers of the drivers to the listener are therefore always identical. Over 20 years ago Avantgarde created a lengend, the BassHorn. A horn-loaded bass system that eclipsed everything that had come before in its radical nature. A bass unit that catapulted the Trio System into iconic status. Since 2001, considerable number of these BassHorn systems were install all over the world. With much analysis and numerous frequency response measurements in different rooms Avantgarde Acoustic created a profound archive filled with experience and expertise that is probably unique but has allowed them to take the next step in perfecting the idea. The SpaceHorn as the latest generation, is the sum of the experience gained from 20 years of BassHorn development.

Customization
Each colour from the extensive collection has been carefully selected to decorate your SpaceHorns. Avantgarde aims for the colours to be both timelessly elegant and expressive, to blend harmoniously with your interior design and to showcase the SpaceHorns.

Two versions
The SpaceHorn is available in two different sizes: Single Drive and Twin Drive. Both versions are 100% compatible with each other and can be used in combination in one system. This means that it is possible to start with two Single Drive SpaceHorn modules in an upright position in the first expansion stage of the TRIO G3 and later expand the system with two or more Twin Drive modules in a central arrangement.

SpaceHorns
To further improve sound transformation in the spatial planes (floor, rear and side walls), we have completely redesigned the horn curve of the SpaceHorn compared to its predecessor. The aim was to integrate these spatial planes into the calculations as an extension of the horn.

Hence the name change. “BassHorn” became “SpaceHorn”. A big horn-loaded bass system that understands space as part of the horn function. Your home mutates into a giant horn. For the most controlled bass technologically possible.

With the SpaceHorn we have repositioned the drivers and optimised the horn curve. We calculated the expansion of the horn with a significantly reduced opening momentum. This allowed us to increase the length of the horn to an impressive 1,898 mm, with no other significant changes to the dimensions. This 40% increase in horn length compared to its predecessor results in a significant increase in sound radiation resistance and therefore an improvement in acoustic performance.

Compared to its predecessor, we have increased the efficiency of the SpaceHorn by an average of 5 dB in the important 40-100 Hz range. This 4x increase in acoustic output means that the XB12 bass driver has to move even less for the same volume. This means even more speed and even less distortion for breathtaking bass reproduction and even crisper sound.

The Twin Sub is much more than a subwoofer – it is a powerful addition to a wide variety of speaker systems. It impresses with flexible connectivity, intelligent DSP control and deep bass reproduction that fills every room – powerfully, precisely and effortlessly integrated.

MAXIMUM BASS. MINIMUM AREA.
The Twin Sub was developed as a compact, high-performance low-frequency solution for the TRIO G3 – with technologies from our SpaceHorns, but reimagined for maximum flexibility. Two XB12 12-inch drivers with gigantic 6-inch voice coils form the heart of the system. The precise motor structure with single frame basket and ventilated magnetic setup ensures excellent control and high efficiency – even at the lowest frequencies.

A specially tuned Class D amplifier with an integrated DSP controller supplies the drivers with up to 1,000 watts of power. The digital control enables precise coordination of space and listening situation – for a bass performance that is not only audible but physically noticeable.

The special feature: The downfiring arrangement of the two drivers in combination with oversized reflex openings that also radiate downwards. These generate an acoustically phase-operating air load that increases the efficiency in deep bass by up to 6 dB – with lower stroke and more dynamics.

The Twin Sub can be operated individually (stereo mode) or in pairs (double mono). This means it adapts to any room concept – whether centrally between the TRIOs, close to the wall or directly on the foot profile of the speakers.

Available in four elegant veneer variants and with an individually paintable front panel, the Twin Sub can be visually perfectly adapted to the TRIO G3. A bass solution that is intended to be acoustically and visually uncompromising – for the highest performance in the smallest of spaces.

XB12 – caliber 153mm

RADICAL HORN RADICAL DRIVE.
To be clear: the XB12 is probably the most powerful driver ever developed for a large horn-charged bass system.

The diameter of the voice coil is a full 153 mm. With this gigantic 6-inch engine structure, we achieve absolute peaks in power factor and resilience while reducing power compression. The motor structure consists of two high-performance magnets that are magnetized in Europe's largest 200,000-volt system. The huge voice coil transfers the force of the permanent magnet with a flux density of 1.15 Tesla to a voice coil circumference of 480 mm.

We use low-carbon steel for the pole plates that were specially developed for the XB12. In order to ensure high linearity even at maximum membrane deflection, the centering has a patented dynamic profile with a progressive bead design. The bead consists of low-loss NBR (acrylonitrile butadiene rubber). This achieves fast and clean transient response. The diaphragm is made of a composite of long-fiber paper and carbon fiber – extremely stable and torsion-resistant for a precise piston-shaped diaphragm stroke during the transient in and out process.

The XB12's new SingleFrame chassis features robust die-cast aluminum booms that also enclose the magnet, providing a completely stable material connection around the moving components of the engine structure. For an additional 6dB reduction in distortion, the XB12 is connected to the Hornmund – new compared to its predecessor – via our AirGateAA.

The XB12 is our reference when it comes to bass. A statement that underlines the uncompromising and unique nature of the G3 series.

 

Bass final stage

STRENGTH IN ALL SITUATIONS.
The Twin Sub is operated with an integrated bass output stage. The active modules combine a digital crossover and powerful Class D power amplifiers.

Each bass driver is via a separate 500 watt power amplifier controlled, which can provide sufficient power even with complex EQ– settings. A 12 volt switching voltage input allows the subwoofer to be switched on remotely.

All electronics are secured via a state-of-the-art E–Fuse circuit. This is not only much faster and therefore safer than conventional fuses, but also ideal in terms of sound.

 

Downfiring Technology

Precise bass with maximum space connection
A number of advantages of downfiring are well known, such as. B. the improved coupling of the driver movement to the air volume of the room, by using the floor as a large ‚coupling plane‛, thereby reducing the excitation of bass modes and enabling the construction of a solid and ‚tangible‛ deep bass. The necessary distance from the ground is achieved by a solid U-shaped aluminum casting with 4 booms.

Another special feature of the Twin Sub is the unique downfiring arrangement of both the two drivers and the two reflex channels. Behind this is a unique application of bass reflex theory: the reflex openings are about seven times larger than usual tunnels used for such a design. They thereby form an efficient ‚air load‛ parallel (acoustically in phase) to the bass drivers, which increases the efficiency of the Twin Sub in the deep bass range by an impressive 6 dB. The result: lower stroke of the drivers, reduced power output of the built-in amplifier and higher dynamics. And all of this at concert-like levels, if desired.

 

Flexible in construction – powerful in sound

The Twin Sub allows you to perfectly adapt the deep, physically noticeable bass to space, system and personal preferences. No matter whether minimalist or maximally dynamic: with two connection options, it offers the freedom to create the sound exactly where it works best.

In the stereo configuration, a single twin sub plays both channels. This not only saves space, but also creates a tidy, elegant setup – ideal for living rooms, smaller listening rooms or wherever discreet integration is desired. Despite the compact solution, the sound remains great: deep, precise and impressively present. This means that the full potential of the TRIO G3 can also be experienced in spatially limited environments.

However, if you are looking for the absolute maximum of low-frequency control and spatial imaging, choose the double-mono configuration. Two twin subs are used here – one per channel. This mode of operation opens up new dimensions: the low frequencies are distributed more evenly throughout the room, the bass becomes more tangible, more powerful – and at the same time more precise, especially in larger or acoustically difficult rooms, this brings noticeable advantages: more control, more dynamism, more goosebumps. And by dividing it into two subwoofers, the maximum volume also increases – without audible distortion, even during quiet passages with sudden energy.

Whether as a discreet addition or an uncompromising bass duo – the Twin Sub fits perfectly into any setup, showcasing the tonal power of the TRIO G3 where music is more than just a sound: an experience that gets under your skin.

Compact, versatile, perfectly coordinated
Thanks to its space-saving design, the Twin Sub can be integrated particularly flexibly into the living room or listening room – in the spirit of a modern, stylish setup. The Twin Sub opens up new possibilities for a living space-friendly, yet powerful low-frequency solution.

When using a single twin sub (stereo configuration), central positioning – for example between the TRIO speakers is recommended. In double mono operation with two twin subs, they can be placed on the side next to the TRIOs, flanking them on the outside, or – thanks to the optional spacers – directly next to the foot profile of the TRIO.

One bass for every system

In addition to being an optional subwoofer solution for TRIO satellites, the Twin Sub can be used as a powerful additional subbass for many other speaker systems. It is also – and last but not least – ideal for use with other speaker systems from Avantgarde Acoustic (e.g. B. DUO, MEZZO).

In such systems, possibly even in full-range operation, the Twin Sub can be an excellent addition even in its stereo configuration. For this, it provides both speaker signal and XLR inputs for the left and right signals. Thanks to its downfiring arrangement of the two drivers and bass reflex channels, it enables perfect acoustic coupling to the room. Therefore, even a single twin sub ensures excellent low-frequency amplification in many systems.

As with all Avantgarde Acoustic subwoofers, the Twin Sub also has an integrated DSP that offers a variety of setting options. Thus, flexible placement in any room is possible – regardless of whether the subwoofer is used in stereo or double mono operation.

Perfectly shaped down to the smallest detail
The Twin Sub's case rests on a solid, U-shaped aluminum casting with four solid booms. These not only contribute to acoustic performance – through the defined ground clearance for the downfiring principle – but also create a clear visual connection to the TRIO G3. The spikes for leveling correspond exactly to those of the TRIO and enable tool-free adjustment on any surface.

For maximum integration, the Twin Sub comes with a spacer set with which the subwoofer can be pushed exactly towards the aluminum foot profile of the TRIO. The distance is chosen so that the Twin Sub almost completely disappears into the shadow of the speaker – visually reserved, sonically present. This creates a setup that fits discreetly into the room and still creates an impressive low-frequency basis.
